Gossip I want to be a role model to my Kids: Saif

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

Bollywood heartthrob Saif Ali Khan may be playing a casanova in his latest film Love Aaj Kal but the actor says that he tries his best to be an ideal role model for his children.

The actor who has two children with ex-wife Amrita Singh and is currently dating Kambakkht Ishq star Kareena Kapoor says that he tries his best to shield his children from the media frenzy surrounding his life.

"He (his son) copies what I do, so I have to be careful with my actions. I don't want to be a bad role model but ultimately the relationship between us is friendly. I want to keep him away from the media as much as possible," says Saif, who is currently in the city promoting Love Aaj Kal.

The 38-year-old star said that his relationship with his son Ibrahim is completely different from the equation he shared with his father, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

"My relation with my son is not like my relation with my father as there was a gap in our relationship when I was younger, but I am more friendly with my son," he said.

The actor who is touring the country promoting his debut home production Love Aaj Kal said that he decided to become a producer because he wanted more creative involvement in the process of filmmaking.

"The job of an actor is simpler, just finish the shooting and go home, but I wanted to have more of the creative share of the film and wanted to learn more about the industry so I entered the production process," Saif said.

Gossip Preity Ok Being a 'bechari', than a 'bitch'

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

Thursday night-Friday morning, as a heavy rain lashed Mumbai, Preity Zinta slipped out, taking a flight to London and from

there to places she did not want to disclose... where she had “shoots to complete, ad films to make, business meetings to attend, and a couple of other things bunched together”.

She won’t be back till October, but said she was excited to get out, I did not blame her. Since Preity’s disastrous outing at the IPL in South Africa, where I don’t know which was her greater loss – cricket or love, the press had been on her case. “I don’t deny the fact that I’m single,” she had told me then. “I’ve not spoken about my personal life and I won’t do it now. I’d rather be the bechari than the bitch!” I did not ask about Ness Wadia, instead, I asked if men hit on her again. “Sure,” Preity had replied with her dimpled smile, “all the time, but the press hits on me as well!” Then, with some josh, “But I’m the same person, with the same values, just because I’m single it does not mean I’m breaking marriages. Don’t link me with every Tom, Dick and Harry.”

Now we spoke again as she completed last minute chores, the clock throwing silent minutes into the night, taking her closer to departure time. She had spent the last three weeks in Mumbai working on Main Aur Mrs Khanna (yes, it’s Kareena Kapoor’s film, but with Preity), there’s a little bit of dubbing left, and the film is being readied for Diwali. Her other film Har Pal, with the unfortunate rape accused Shiney Ahuja, will hopefully be released by the end of the year. She has two new films on hand, but has been reading more scripts, and is also working on a cricket show for television. “It’s called Behind The Seam and is going to be a look through my eyes at cricket in South Africa. Yes, I’ve restricted myself to the IPL, but the show’s much more than that. I’m producing it. What do you mean who’s idea is it? Mine, why! My idea of cricket was different before the IPL. I thought, you held the bat, threw the ball, got applauded if you hit a six, cursed if you got out! Besides the crazy cricket fan, that’s what everyone sees. So I’ve taken people behind the scenes, where the hard work and the heartache takes place, yes, yes, I’m in it, the camera follows me everywhere in South Africa. Except into my personal life... you won’t find it even here!”

She has been making brave statements about next year’s IPL, about how she’ll be there, because she’s not just financially involved with her team, but also emotionally attached to the business of cricket now. “That’s how I am, that’s my personality, if I’m not attached, I cannot be passionate about what I’m doing,” she had said. But there are many more runs to be scored in international cricket, records to be broken, before the IPL gets down to business again. And even if she is not into cricket then, Preity Zinta will always be an actress, so come in Bollywood! “I’m going to pull out a lot of surprises,” she promised. “This year, the films that will release will release, but now I’m excited because my career is going exactly the place I want it to go. I’ve always wanted to go in different directions and grow.

That’s why I ventured into cricket. And as an actor, I’m my own factory, I’m looking at doing films that add value to my body of work. Like The Last Lear, Heaven On Earth, Heroes... I feel so good I did them, they’re away from commercial cinema and take lesser time to make, and yet they take me to another horizon.”

But now she wants to get back to commercial cinema, she wants to be the actress that people would like to see. “Farah Khan was shooting me the other day and I had on this robe with a sexy thing underneath. I refused to take it off. Farah asked, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ And I replied, ‘Punjab Cricket Board kya sochenga?’ So, I’m looking at being the quintessential Preity Zinta again, but with an edge,” she said. I didn’t want her to lose her flight, but I had a question to ask: was she happy, finally? “As much as I can, I’m enjoying every moment of my life,” Preity replied.

“People can say what they want, the press can say what it wants, I’m not going to give five interviews to clarify... the fans judge me by the way I perform. Now I’m in my own space. I’m like a jack-in-the-box. When I’m in, I’m down. But once I’m out, I’m out!”

Gossip Director rapes Actress in Mumbai

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

A film director was arrested today in suburban Versova after he allegedly raped a girl whom he had promised a role in a film, police said.

"The director Ramkumar Kumawat has directed some small budget films and the victim, who is about 24-year-old, had gone to audition for a role in his film some time back," a senior police official from the Versova police station said.

After the audition Kumawat met her and promised to give her some work in his films, the official said.

About three days ago after getting no response from the director, the victim had called Kumawat again and he told her to come to his office in Versova, police officials said.

"When she went to his office, Kumawat allegedly raped her and told her not to tell anyone about the incident. However, the victim registered a case against him yesterday night following which he was arrested," they said.

Gossip Animation will Witness a thrust Priyanka Chopra

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

I think science fiction and animation are genres that will witness a great thrust in Bollywood in the coming decade. Serious attempts are already being made in these and more and more people will look to exploit these genres that are still relatively untapped as compared to the West. They have major potential for growth and are something to watch out for.

There's also a debate whether Bollywood would move out of Mumbai as there are space constraints in building studios with technology and infrastructure that matches the West. But I honestly don't see that happening in the near future. Mumbai is home to Bollywood and it will always remain so. I think we have great studios in Mumbai already and though there are constraints in terms of space and property rates, we are doing a good job. Our studios are well equipped, but our films don't have the kind of budgets that Hollywood films work with, so I guess what we have is enough for now.

The corporatisation of the film industry has been quite a boon as things have become very streamlined. Things happen on time and there's great professionalism in the industry. I feel the industry has changed a lot and for the better since the time I joined Bollywood.

With corporates in full swing, people engaged in various quarters of the industry have gained a lot. Stars as well as the production houses have had a great ride during the economic boom. People are debating whether stars have to charge less now as there's recession, I would say that there are good times and bad times and we will see this through.

Mumbai Fundas
For all you animation lovers, the baap of all animes is readying to hit the theatres -- an animation story with a budget of Rs 100 crore, spanning over 250 episodes and talking about 100-odd characters -- this is what India's first and very own 3-D television animation series would look like. Called Bo Mamo, the anime will be released soon on a TV channel.

Gossip A look at the Islamic elements of Bollywood

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

It is hard to imagine the Hindi film pantheon without its great Muslim movies. It is harder to believe that it has taken all these years for someone to come up with a scholarly look at the provenance and progression of the Muslim components — the nawabs and the tawaifs, the kotha and the kaneez, the ghazals and the qawwalis — of the cinema that came out of Bombay.

In their introduction, the authors of Islamicate Cultures of Bombay Cinema define what they mean by Islamicate — a composite term for “the influence and impact of the forms of imagined history, social life and expressive idioms that are derived from and are associated with Islamic culture and history of Bombay cinema”. Ira Bhaskar and Richard Allen contend that these forms reached their “most distinctive and complete realisation in specific genres and sub-genres of Bombay cinema”, and classify those genres as the Muslim Historical, the Muslim Courtesan Film and the Muslim Social.

Gossip Priyanka-Shahid to Pair up again after Kaminay?

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

Her son might have moved on, but Shahid Kapur's mom Neelima Azim continues to share warm vibes with Priyanka and has even offered her a film.

Shahid is apparently aware of this and has no objections.

Neelima and Priyanka met in Priyanka's flat, which is in the same building as Shahid's. Neelima said, "Yes, I met up with Priyanka at her house. She is the only girl in the industry whom I have approached. She fits the role."

Neelima maintains that she offered the role to Priyanka Chopra before the actress got involved with Shahid.

"I get along very well with Priyanka. It's a very professional, but warm relationship. Of course, it will all depend on who the male actor is. Priyanka is in a certain league. If I get a damn good actor, but not a top star, I don't expect her to step in. But then, she may still sign up due to the fact that she loved the character which I want her to play."

Neelima added, "Shahid is aware that I want Priyanka in my film. Why wouldn't he know? In fact, I consult him at every step. This would be my first film and I think he would be the right person to give me advice."

We wonder if mom might pair her own son with Priyanka in her directorial debut.

Aishwarya Rai who is quite busy these days with promotions and movies wants to prepare herself to become a mother.

Aishwarya apparently wants to complete all her work by 2010 so that she can concentrate on motherhood.

A source close to Ash says, “This no doubt is the busiest phase of Aishwarya’s career. Such a flurry of assignments has never been seen before in any married actress’ life and she’d be foolish to let such opportunities slip by. Luckily, Abhishek is thoroughly supportive of her career. She wants to complete as many of these assignments as she can to before she becomes a mother. Because once she gets into that role she wouldn’t want any other distractions. That, Aishwarya is sure of.”

So junior of Junior Bachchan is not far away.

Gossip Sonam and Anil Kapoor will feature in same Commercial

·

Anil Kapoor and daughter Sonam will be seen in front of the camera for the first time for a luxury pen brand's advertisement. A source reveals, "Anil Kapoor is endorsing a brand for the first time. He was made several offers during his career but never really bit the bait, because he wasn't ever interested. With Sonam getting several offers (with dad in tow) the duo have finally signed on with a luxury pen brand for a whopping amount." It is learnt that the ad will be shot in Mumbai on July 29. This will be Sonam Kapoor's second endorsement.

The source continues, "Anil Kapoor has always refused to sell himself as a commodity. He was one of the few actors who refrained from doing ads despite fantastic offers. He prefers to be remembered for the characters he played in his films and not for endorsing a particular brand. But Anil has changed his principles for the sake of his daughter."

"The brand endorsed by this father-daughter duo, will definitely have an added advantage of targeting different generation and age groups. So no doubt the brand, endorsed by them, will definitely stand to benefit", adds the source.

A source close to Sonam confirms, "This is the first time one will see the father-daughter on screen. Anil is glad to make his debut in the ad industry with his daughter."
Sonam and Anil remained unavailable for the comment.

Gossip Mallika outdoes Priyanka on Popularity

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

Just a few days back reports about the so-called war between Bollywood hotties Priyanka Chopra & Mallika Sherawat were doing the rounds, as to who's got more popularity on the social networking site Twitter. It was being said that Priyanka has more followers than Mallika. While Mallika has around 8000 fan-following on Twitter than Priyanka has a record of 10,000 fans in a month.

On knowing about Priyanka's claiming sources, Bollywood's hottest diva Mallika Sherawat herself, speaks out, 'I was encouraged by Twitter employees to help get more Bollywood celebrities and their fans on Twitter, and I'm so happy Priyanka fell into my trap!'

'In a country of over a billion, we still have a long way to go. 10,000 followers on Twitter is just the beginning. And in the end, whether it's the number of followers one has on Twitter, or like most other things-- it's not the size that matters, it's what you do with them that counts. In fact, there are many Indians who have more followers on Twitter than both Priyanka and myself combined. They and the people who joined Twitter from the beginning are pioneers.'

CHECK OUT: Priyanka Chopra rules the world of eyeballs in Advertisements as well

She went on jokingly, 'And if people really wanna make a controversy out of myself and Priyanka being on Twitter, they've come to the right place! I hereby challenge Priyanka to a virtual 'Tweet-off!' When asked what a 'tweet-off' would mean, she admitted, 'I have no idea. Let the followers decide.'

A source close to the actress also adds, ''Mallika Sherawat was the first who became aware of the importance of Twitter. At the behest of her HISSS producers, Mallika started 'tweeting' on the website while living in Los Angeles during the film's post-production. Soon after, Mallika became a regular tweeter, enjoying the direct interaction with fans, friends and family back home in India, as well as the creative outlet the service provided her.'

CHECK OUT: Mallika Sherawat soars Twitter temperature

''Since Mallika started tweeting, she has garnered thousands of followers and a simple google search shows that many press reports have since been written about Twitter in India, spurring some to charge that Mallika pioneered the Twitter craze currently happening in India. The perception was further solidified when Mallika was invited by Twitter to visit their headquarters in San Francisco, the first star from Asia to be given the honor. Mallika even visited Twitter, met the employees and danced with the CEO Evan Williams at the Twitter HQ and was even crowned as 'Queen of Twitter'.'

A US source familiar with the media's treatment, but not associated with either Mallika or Priyanka, suggests, 'I think its doubtful Priyanka would have even joined Twitter if Mallika didn't make it famous all over India first.'

Mallika will be leading a parade for India Independence Day in the US, where besides visiting Twitter HQ she has been receiving awards, meeting with Hollywood celebs and being introduced around town by industry VIPs as the new 'Hollywood 'It' Girl'. Mallika is also the first star from Asia to have a milkshake named in her honor at Hollywood hotspot Millions of Milkshakes.

Gossip Hollywood Teaches Anil Kapoor about weekends!

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

Anil KapoorI don’t know how Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar are going to like this, but Hollywood seems to think that
Slumdog Millionaire’s question master Anil Kapoor has become one of the best-known Indian faces on the planet.
Anil himself is modest about the recognition. “Obviously, Slumdog changed my life,” he admitted, “but then it changed the lives of everybody connected with the film, including Danny Boyle.” This new global positioning has plucked him out of Bollywood and stationed him in LA, where his talents are being put to use on the Emmy and Golden Globes winning American TV series 24.

“It is an espionage and political thriller,” he explained, “it catches the highest eyeballs in the world. What Friends is for comedy, 24 is for drama and action.” He plays a Middle Eastern nation’s President who is in the US for a peace treaty in the UN with the American President.

“I won’t mention which Middle East nation,” Anil said apologetically, “but the series is contemporary and about what’s happening in the world... you will know.”

This is the eighth season of the show, and perhaps its last, with our Anil having canned six episodes already. He’s about to start the seventh and eight, but the launch of his film Ayesha, which he is producing for daughter Sonam, brought him back to Mumbai for two days. I caught up with the old Bollywood war horse over breakfast on one morning.

He sprinted up two flights of stairs like a spirited young colt to scrambled eggs and multi-grain toast, yelling at me over his shoulder, “When your hands are full, you don’t need to work on fitness.” Then, over coffee, he talked about the Hollywood press’ glowing reports on his success.

“This is... what... I... the whole thing is like getting an opportunity to learn so much... I feel like a newcomer, like I’m just beginning. My daughter said, ‘You have a family, you have money, you have fame and the back-up of work at home, and here’s the opportunity to be there, to work with big players on a global stage. What more could anybody want?’ It is true. I was also offered a few studio roles in Hollywood. But I said no. I don’t need the money and I have enough work at home. My hands are full.”

That is also true. He is launching Ayesha on August 2, and he’s already got No Problem, another film he is producing, happening in South Africa since July 11. As for being among the best-known Indian faces on the planet, Anil muttered uncomfortably, “I’m humbled by it. But better I be modest, down to earth and rooted, let my work speak... yet, in my own small way I feel I was a stepping stone, I’m convinced there will be another Slumdog, and there will be many Indians actors who will be ten times bigger than me... but I feel proud, I’m one of the first mainstream actors to do a film like this out of the box.”

He’s busy juggling two careers now (“let’s see where it takes me”), last week he travelled three continents, from LA to Durban and then Mumbai, taking advantage of one night in transit to meet filmmakers in London for future international projects. “I love my work passionately,” Anil said.

“Saturdays and Sundays in LA, I get restless, because everything shuts down. I just learned what a weekend is. In Bollywood, we work 24/7. There it’s bad manners to call up anyone for work on the weekend. Duniya ulti-seedhi ho jaye, but they remain shut. So I go hiking!” But his heart is still in India.

“I’m doing a film for Anees Bamzee, there’s Ayesha, No Problem, and if there’s something else that’s exciting, I’ll do it here,” he said, undeterred by the failure of his recent film Short Kut at the box office. “I’m ready to fail, I love it when people make fun of me, it makes me feel superior,” he said. “It means I’m up there. I get upset if people ignore me.”

People, meanwhile, were not ignoring him at our breakfast table. They were looking at him curiously from afar, giving him space. Anil Kapoor, despite the burnished copper hair, spectacles, and tracksuit, still looks and behaves like a film star. “Being recognised anywhere in the world, that’s the most exciting part,” he told me. “Earlier, when I travelled, it was only the Air-India crew that knew me. Now on any airline, even in China, they come for autographs and pictures. I like that!”

“He (Salman) took me along so that I could show him a few steps to do before director Sooraj Barjatya. But when Salman did the steps, it was so appalling that I simply picked up by footwear, hailed a cab and took off home,” said Farah on the show.

Salman, who started blushing after his secret was revealed, agreed that he did have two left feet then and later even demonstrated the step he was required to perform at the auditions, said a source from the sets of the show.

This particular episode will air Saturday at 9 p.m. on Sony TV.

Gossip Sex should be Worshipped, says Priyanka

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

The sexy Priyanka Kothari aka Nisha Kothari may not have had a run of successes in Bollywood since her debut film 'James.'

The actress once again finds shelter in her godfather Ram Gopal Verma to resurrect her career. And as she gets ready to give yet another taste of her acting skills in her next release, 'Agyaat', she also shares her views on the subject of 'sex.'

Priyanka learnt about the three letter word 'sex' from her school friends who would always talk about and try to figure what it really meant. She finds it too 'intimate and private' to discuss with anyone.

For her sex is a divine creation and ought to be worshipped.

"Sex should be worshipped. We all love to make love but when we all talk about it, we talk cheap. God must've got some reason to form something called sex without which the world wouldn't exist," Priyanka was quoted by a websi

Gossip Did Nikhil Chinappa ask for Sexual favours?

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

The show ended almost a month ago, but the allegations are surfacing now. First, eliminated contestants Varun Jhamb and Nalini Negi alleged that “some of the top crew members, including the director, had slept in the same room as top contender Joanna Magee; and others engaged in sexual favours, especially towards the end.” Now, Swagata G Shah is screaming herself hoarse about an alleged sex scandal. In a tell-all interview to a tabloid, this ex-contestant alleged that the contestants had to give sexual favours to the crew members that included, to the surprise of many, Nikhil Chinappa as well. DT got talking to some of the people embroiled in the controversy.

Siddhartha, winner: We all knew that there’d be only two winners and loads of losers. What was expected of them was that they’d take their defeat graciously. But that that’s where they’ve all f***** up. All these allegations are just publicity hungry losers teaming up. This ultimately reflects badly on them. Swagata was the first contestant to be eliminated. This is when she’s chosen to speak the ‘truth’ – almost after four months? Dragging Nikhila Chinappa’s name into it all is ridiculous – he’s had 10-12 years of a spotless career in the industry.

Probably, when she was eliminated, she didn’t expect the show to be such a hit. And when she realised that she hadn’t gotten much out of it, this is what she’s resorted to.

As for Nalini and Varun, they’d started using the show’s name to their advantage. They’d go to pubs in Delhi and ask for a free entry, saying they were Splitsvilla contestants. As for the pool party that Swagata has spun her version around, let me clarify that there was a pool only for the crew members and there was a separate party area for the contestants. During the show’s shoot, contestant-crew member interaction was barred and the same applied to the pool party as well. Although there were a few minutes of interaction, none of the girls were left alone with the crew members in the pool.

Nikhil Chinappa: I don’t want to comment on it. The channel will come out with an official statement soon. After all, it’s about the channel’s image and mine.

Rajiv Laxman (Creative director of the show): I categorically deny these allegations. We have strict rules that prevent the mingling of the crew with the cast. Swagata was the first contestant to be eliminated and didn’t even spend a night at the villa. She doesn’t have any inkling of the way things work there. The channel is seen as a soft target. With every season of our reality show such things have come to the fore.

There’s been a lot of learning from this incident. In our forthcoming season, we’ll make sure that a thorough background check is done on the cast.

Gossip I m Hundered Percent Indian Katrina Kaif

·

Bollywood Celebrity Gossip

Katrina KaifKatrina Kaif feels that while Namaste London was a turning point in her Bollywood career, New York launched her as an actress in her own right. In this interview with The Indian Express Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta on NDTV 24x7’s Walk the Talk, Katrina talks about her forthcoming film, Rajniti and why she considers India her home

My guest this week is Katrina Kaif, the most searched name on Google and a Bollywood Barbie.
Both the things you mentioned are two of the most special things forme. I’ll tell you why. I have six sisters. They live in London and are not so aware of the Hindi film industry. So when they heard about these two things — obviously every girl in the world knows what Barbie is and every teenager in the world knows what Google is — it meant a lot to them. And everybody wants to make their family proud.

So you get along with your sisters?
Oh yes. Sometimes I call them up and say, I’m doing a movie with Akshay Kumar or with Saif Ali Khan. The youngest one, Isabelle, is here, the rest of them don’t know much about our industry. So even though they are happy for me and support me, they don’t have that connect.

Where do you fit in that long order of siblings?
Exactly three before me and three after me. I am right in the middle.

So you have three big sisters and three sisters you can...
...Bully. In London, you don’t have maids or cooks. We have this big family house and there are five rooms. I don’t cook. So, when I go to London, I tell my younger sisters to cook for me.They are fabulous cooks.

That’s the Kashmiri in you...
Yes. Living in Bombay we have become dependent on other people to do our day-to-day work. We get out of the habit of cooking, making our own beds, cleaning utensils. Most foreigners, who come here, find it odd.

Do you consider yourself a foreigner or an Indian?
I am hundred per cent Indian. When I was growing up, I always felt a very strong awareness that I am an Asian. I don’t know whether that’s politically correct or not, but I always felt that I am different and growing up in a country that’s not Asian.

It’s almost an Asian country now.
Now it is. But that sense of belonging was always missing when I was growing up. When I came to India, I felt an instant sense of belonging. My uncle was here, I had a bit of family in Bangalore. My uncle was a civil engineer constructing water systems for the city. I came here with my older sister and she said, “Katrina, this is not for me and I love our house in London and want to go back.” I said I am going to stay here; this is where I want to be. Now, there is no other place that I would ever consider home.

When I came here, I had only Rs 4 lakhs. I told myself that if I can make it with this money, I will stay here. If not, I will go back to London and rejoin college. I was only 17 at that time and was modelling. I bought a small apartment near a cemetery. I fear living alone and fear darkness, so I would stay up all night and wait for the sun to come up and then go to bed at five o’clock in the morning and sleep for five hours.

I did my first photo shoot with a photographer called Farooq. I got very good feedback. I took my portfolio and went from one agency to another. I would go there and say, can I meet your casting director. I showed them my pictures. The casting agents started calling me.

Did you find India or did some Indian film person find you?
I found India.

So the stories of Kaizad Gustad discovering you...
I met Kaizad Gustad in London. He encouraged me. He said, “You must come to India.” At that time I was focussing on modelling. He gave me a lot of contacts, including that of Farooq.

Tell us who you are. Why is there so much mystery? I’ll not go by whatever I have read in film magazines. Tell us about yourself, pre-stardom.
I was born in Hong Kong. My mom was a Harvard graduate, a very successful lawyer who gave it up to join a charitable organisation.

She was working with the organisation as a non-profit lawyer and because of that, we travelled a lot. From Hong Kong, we went to Japan, China, France, Hawaii and then to London.

The Indian in you comes from your father.
Yes. My parents separated when we were very young. We were raised by my mother who did a wonderful job. She raised us with the belief and inspiration to find yourself in the world. Live your dreams and find what is going to make you live life freely.

She made us tough and she wasn’t the kind of mother who told us to go to college and get a degree and become a doctor or a lawyer. She herself had found her fulfillment in things that were off-beat. I have one brother. He is a professional skier and rock climber.

What about your father?
We have grown up without a father. I missed it a great deal. I do feel that sense of loss.

You haven’t been in touch with him?
No. When I see friends who have wonderful fathers who are like pillars of support for their families, I say, if only I had that. But instead of complaining, I should be grateful for all the other things I have.

He hasn’t tried to get in touch with you after you became a star.
No, he is not that kind of a man. He is very decent and comes from a good family and they went their own ways because of issues which are personal. He is an affluent person, so he is not going to come back because his daughter is now famous.

When did the big break come?
I don’t think I’ve had that big break. For me it was ‘Oh Katrina looks nice here’ or ‘That’s a nice ad’ or ‘That’s an okay song’ or ‘That’s a nice movie’. It was all gradual, step-by-step.

May be it happened a little bit with Singh Is Kinng?
Before that there was a film called Namastey London where, for the first time, I had a dominating role and Akshay Kumar allowed me to do that at a stage when not many people believed in me. He’s a huge star. He knew that a lot of the industry was not behind me and he still went ahead. That was a turning-point in my career in the film industry. The film’s script was fabulous and for the first time I got a good response from the industry. After Namastey London, there was Race, where people said, she does this kind of dancing well. Then there was Singh Is Kinng and now NewYork.

I keep hearing from Prakash Jha about the work you are doing in his film, Rajniti. It’s a serious role.
That film has a lot of potential and to me it looks like a great film. I can’t tell you how excited I am about that film.

He tells me that you look the part. He says you will bust the myth that you can’t speak in Hindi. He told me you recorded a speech on the phone.
He recorded the speech for me because he is not only a director and a very intelligent man but also a politician of sorts. He knows how to deliver a speech. The speech was recorded so that I could get the into nations right.

Do you think it is the film that will launch you as an actor in your own right?
I think with NewYork, I have got that to a large extent.

How did Salman Khan happen and when?
We met through his sister at a party. I have always said that I will never get into details about these personal things. You will waste a part of your life answering, denying or clarifying things that don’t matter or are just speculations. I am too much of a sensitive person to have this side of my life debated or to enter and participate in these kinds of debates. He has been a wonderful person for the last six years I have known him. He has got a great soul and he is very fearless. He is not afraid of anything and he is not an insecure person. A lot of people live their lives with so much insecurity - fear of rejection, of losing things. But he doesn’t fear. And he tries to teach me that.

He has made his own mistakes in life. In case of other people, he has a great quality of being able to negate all the bad things and flaws and see their potential. For me, he has been a great teacher and a great guide. He has seen me grow up in the last six years. For 18 to 24 is a journey, especially for a young girl. At times, he says you are changing. And I say, I am changing because I am growing. He says, “Be careful, don’t change into something that is not good.”

That’s not what a successful 24-year-old wants to be told.
Sometimes what you need to be told is not what you want to hear. It’s good to have people in your life who can be like sound boards.

Tell us about your Hindi issue. Have you had to take lessons?
I have had to take a lot of lessons. I still take lessons, especially for Rajniti. I am working on my diction. I read Hindi very well.

If you lost your way in Mumbai, will you be able to find your way back using Hindi?
Oh, yes! My Hindi is pretty good.

Do you watch cricket?
I am a brand ambassador for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Do you understand cricket like all Indians?
Yes, I play cricket. My batting is a little better than my bowling. I have to work on my bowling. The ball is just not going the right place.

I think there is nothing better than being an all-rounder. After being the Indian Barbie and the most searched name on Google, all you need is an ace to become an all-rounder.
And I have got an entire team to teach me. After we didn’t win the finals this year, our captain Anil Kumble was standing there as I was about to perform in the finale. I looked at him and said, congratulations. He looked so disheartened because it was so near yet so far. We could have won.

I think all they need now is for you to practise with your bowling so that you can join the team next year.
I can join the team. I keep saying that to Dr Vijay Mallya. I hope Vijay Mallya is not watching this, he might even do it. He is adventurous enough.

And for all you know he might have a winner on his hands. Katrina, keep winning all the time.
Thank you so much.
