Shahrukh Khan Surgery Set For an Indian Doctor

·

Bollywood News

Shah Rukh Khan will go under the surgeon’s knife in India to help relieve the pain of his painful shoulder.

The actor was fighting through the pain barrier during Valentine week as he undertook a strenuous promotional tour for the film "Billu".

After flying to London with showbiz pals Lara Dutta and Irrfan Khan for the film’s premier he has a gap in his hectic schedule.

And, after a causing controversy in 2003 for selecting a hospital in London to take care of his back pains, the Bollywood megastar is happy to have this surgery in Mumbai.

"When he got his back surgery done in London there was criticism about his lack of faith in Indian doctors. Shahrukh feels that some of the finest doctors in the world are in Mumbai,” a close friend told a Masala source.

“He sees no need to go to the West for treatment," King Khan's friend told us.

SRK does have the support of his colleagues. Even though the filming of Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan is being delayed the director is standing by his pal. "Films will keep happening. Shah Rukh needs to be well," Johar said.

Superhot Actress Gul Panag is a Fitness Freak

·

Showbiz News

Ever wondered how the former Miss India keeps so trim? Luck? Genes? Diet?

No, it’s her obsessive dedication to a grueling fitness regime.

The self-confessed fitness freak leads a disciplined life but never skips a workout regime.

The only thing that doesn’t get in the way of fitness, in fact, is her work.

The actress, whose father is an army officer, is particularly careful about her fitness routine when she is shooting for films.

"On shoot days I have to have to work out in the morning. No matter what the call time is, whether it is 9am or later, I completely avoid reporting on sets without having followed my regimen. But of course, I ensure that my reporting timelines are met," Gul told a Masala source.

"It is crucial to have the energy to give your best all day long and more so in our profession where being in best shape is a bare necessity," she said.

"As I said, I work out regularly and moreover have extremely high fitness and endurance levels. Now that's something that I have proven time and again by running the 21-km half marathon year after year," Gul added.

She is a self-confessed fitness freak, leads a disciplined life and doesn't skip her workout regimen, but at the same time actress Gul Panag ensures her personal time-table doesn't disrupt her professional commitments.

Gul Panag started shooting last week for Ram Gopal Varma's much anticipated take on the media - "Rann". But before reporting for her 9 a.m. call for the shoot, she went for a quick run, a regime that she has been following throughout her professional stint.

Asked how she is able to manage her time, Gul said: "It's all about being disciplined in the way you set your daily routine.

The former Miss India, who got accolades for her powerful performance in "Dor" (2006), says it is strange that many people don't have much regard for fitness.

Talking about "Rann", she said she has good memories of her first day at work for the film. She confessed that though she has worked in quite a few films earlier, it was quite special to be directed by Ram Gopal Varma.

2009 is set to be a busy year for Gul considering her long line-up of films. Some of the projects in her kitty include "Straight", "Hello Darling", "Ek Rectangular Love Story", "Anubhav", "Phir Zindagi", a film with Prakash Jha productions and of course "Rann".

Movie Delhi 6 Not An Autobiographical Film

·

Showbiz News

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has dismissed rumours that his much-awaited Delhi-6 is an onscreen autobiographical adaptation.
However, the Rang de Basanti writer does admit he has used some fond memories of his childhood and youth in the movie.

“Delhi-6 is not an autobiography at all. I've just delved into my childhood memories and my youth in the film. I've only used what I observed when I was growing up in the backdrop. It's more of the colour of that life that has been used in the background than anything else,” Mehra told the IANS news agency.

"It's the story of an Indian origin American boy Roshan Mehra who comes to India to drop his ailing grandmother...like taking a fish back to water. It is the journey of this man and his search for his roots," he said.

Delhi-6 was written by Mehra along with Prasoon Joshi and Kamlesh Pandey.

It stars Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. There will also be a special guest appearance by the Big B himself.
Mehra had the time of his life filming the movie and the 45-year-old is delighted to have come back to Bollywood for this project.
"Every day was an anecdote for us. Basically, we shot with a lot of chaos but with balance and that's what personifies India. That is the basic energy of the film. We recreated Delhi in Rajasthan and about 75 per cent of the film is shot there, and the rest in Chandni Chowk," he said.

A major part of the film was shot in Rajasthan because he did not want to disturb the people living in Chandni Chowk, said Mehra.

"Except for capturing some aspects of the walled Delhi, we couldn't have shot the whole film in that part of Delhi. Otherwise, we would have disturbed the life out there," he said.

Indian Movie Jail Not Based on Dutt's Life

·

Bollywood News

Madhur Bhandarkar has denied that his next movie, Jail, was inspired by the troubled life of Sanjay Dutt.

"The film is not at all inspired by Sanjay Dutt's or anyone's life. It is a common man's perspective about how he gets into jail and how he gets stuck in a situation,” Madhur told reporters.

“It is about a middle-class family boy working in the corporate sector and how after one sudden incident, he goes to jail," said Bhandarkar.

Bhandakar is famed for the authenticity of his films and is trying to gain permission to film inside real prisons.

"I'm working towards shortlisting three or four jails, but I have to first get the permission to shoot there,” said the man who directed Page 3, Chandni Bar and Fashion.

“I want to shoot in real jails to bring authenticity to that narrative. As of now, I have been to two jails in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) and to the Yerawada jail in Pune," he said.

In front of Bhandakar’s camera will be Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse.

This is Bhandarkar's second film with Mugdha after Fashion, while he is teaming up with Neil for the first time. But the director says he is confident that the young actor will pull off the role.

"I saw this boy in Johnny Gaddar. He has a very smart face but at the same time, he has some fragility too. That's why I cast him. His face is so close to Parag Dixit, the protagonist of my movie," said Bhandarkar.

He goes on to explain, “Aamir had said it was a joke that his dog was named after me… and I said if it was a matter of [a] sense of humor, then my joke would have been that I also wanted to name my pets after Aamir, but my pets vehemently refused. My wife said people don’t understand your jokes, so please refrain from doing so… though I felt it was quite funny but I didn’t say it at that time. Nobody said anything about stooping low, etc. Stooping low would be a height joke.”

News Aamir Could Play Guru Dutt on Big Screen

·

Indian Actors News

Guru Dutt is a name that evokes awe and a sense of romance and tragedy. Besides being a master filmmaker, his personal life also holds an endless appeal for directors, two of whom are eager to bring his life story to the big screen.

The two filmmakers - Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur - not only want to make a movie on the legendary actor-director but they also seem to have the same leading man in mind!

Guru Dutt himself made "Kagaz Ke Phool" based on his own life. Much later filmmaker Johnny Bakshi got Rajesh Khanna to play Guru Dutt in "Khudaai", a clumsily fictionalised version of the movie legend's life.

While Mehra's film will be based on Nasreen Munni Kabeer's biography of Guru Dutt, Shivendra Singh is going ahead with his own research on the life of the legend.

The mythic movie maker's son Arun Dutt is also collaborating with Singh for the biopic.

As for Mehra doing his own take on Guru Dutt's life, Singh said: "It's a free world and Guru Dutt is part of public folklore. Anyone can make a film on his life. Why just Rakeysh, I welcome many others to do the same. There were so many films on the life of Bhagat Singh."

Shivendra Singh, who is cricket administrator Raj Singh Dungarpur's nephew, started his career making a shelved film featuring Karisma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor and Chandrachur Singh 15 years ago before gravitating towards ad films. But he is confident of his grasp over Guru Dutt's life.

"I've spent many years researching Guru Dutt's life. Two years ago Anurag Kashyap was brought in to write the film. We're sure of what we're doing," he said.

The title "Guru Dutt" has already been registered. And Singh wants to cast Aamir Khan in the lead role.

Interestingly, Aamir is also reportedly Mehra's first choice. But the scales would be tilted in Singh's favour because Guru Dutt's family is backing the project.

Also, Aamir is very fond of Guru Dutt's sister Lalita Lajmi, who is filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi's mother. Lalita had even made an appearance in Aamir's "Taare Zameen Par".

Kalpana, in fact, was planning a film on her legendary uncle's life but backed out when she heard of Singh's plans.

"My mother told me Anurag Kashyap is scripting and Shivendra Singh is directing the film. They've informed my mother that it won't be fictional but a biopic on my uncle. My uncle's only living heir Arun Dutt has also given his nod to the project. So we're all for it," Kalpana said.

Fight Between Farhan And Emran Hashmi

·

Hot Bollywood News

Both newcomers impressed audiences with their near flawless acts in "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" and "Rock On" respectively, making them top contenders for the numerous awards in tinsel town. But actor-director Farhan Akhtar (pictured left) makes it clear that there is no competition between him and 'chocolate boy' Imran Khan.

"There isn't anything to be looked as competition between Imran and me, as far as awards are concerned," said Farhan, who has already kickstarted 2009 with another good performance in "Luck By Chance".

While Farhan took an unconventional route with a rock band musical drama in "Rock On", Imran too didn't play a quintessential lover boy and followed the friendship-leading-to-love path in "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na".

"And to be honest and absolutely fair, one has to acknowledge the performance of Imran which is indeed quite good," said Farhan, who has made films like "Dil Chahta Hain" and "Lakshya".

Well, the same can be said for Farhan in "Rock On" too, isn't it?

"Yes, people do tell me that I was good in 'Rock On'. However, when it comes to awards, it also depends a lot on the jury watching the film. It's their opinion that would matter about whether I or Imran fit the bill. I'm sure both of us would be quite happy to get an award, but let's see because anything can happen in such events," the actor added in a diplomatic tone.

He asserts that at the end of the day, it is the audience and their appreciation that matter most.

"The fact remains that people have appreciated both Imran and me. It's their acknowledgment and recognition that should keep an actor in me going. Yes, if awards come by, then it's an added bonus; so why would I mind that," Farhan quipped.

But it's sure going to be a neck-to-neck fight between Farhan and Imran at the award functions. Even though Imran's subsequent release "Kidnap" didn't quite bring him great reviews, his 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' was a much bigger success.

On the other hand Farhan was hailed as an actor in "Rock On" and even though "Luck By Chance" released this year, the jury would have in their mind the actor's second straight mature performance.
