Shahrukh Khan And Akshay Are Jaani Dushman

·

Celebrity Gossip Jaani Dushman

All’s not well between Bollywood Badshah SRK and King Akshay Kumar as the two were seen sharing cold vibes at Preity Zinta’s birthday party.

According to a secret source, Akshay was keen to leave the party before SRK arrived.

A source says, “The minute Shah Rukh stepped in, Akshay chose to leave. The few minutes that the two were together, they avoided each other. They greeted one another very reluctantly but after that no words were exchanged between the two. Since there were only a few guests present at the party at the time, the awkwardness was very obvious.”

The duo were asked about their dushmani but they decided to remain silent.

Celebrity Gossip Director Defends Shah Rukh's TV Serial

·

TV Serial Ghar Ki Baat Hai

Sitcom "Ghar Ki Baat Hai", produced by Shah Rukh Khan, debuted on the small screen last week and some viewers found the first episode a tad too tame. But director Anant Mahadevan urges people to allow it some time to settle down and promises the series will be a trendsetter.

"The series is a thrice-a-week sitcom, a genre that Indian viewers have not had a chance to watch for a long time. In fact, we have packaged it like the perfect western style sitcom with comedy inherent in content so that the viewers will laugh not by watching what the performers do on the screen, but from understanding why they do what they do," Mahadevan told IANS.

"Over the last five to six years, the sitcom as a genre got lost in the crowd of saas-bahu daily soaps on the television. Some programmers even tried to pass off slapsticks as sitcoms, confusing the minds of viewers," Mahadevan said.

He said the idea for the sitcom germinated in August last year and it is being produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Idiot Box.

"SRK picked me on the spur of the moment. He asked, 'Will you direct the sitcom?' Well, I would be mad if I refused it," said Mahadevan.

Mahadevan, who has earlier directed the sitcom "Ghar Jamai", couldn't have received a better gift on his completion of 20 years in television than the directorial assignment from Shah Rukh.

Mahadevan, who acted in Sanjay Khan's "Sword of Tipu Sultan" and also directed the TV serial "Indradhanush", feels channels and producers are equally responsible for the falling standards of Indian TV programming today.

According to him, marketing has taken precedence over creativity, and packaging over content.

"It's a very sorry state of affairs and I think programmers as well as the channels should do some reality check before it is too late."

He pointed out that it was the television's loss that people like Gulzar, Shyam Benegal, Basu Chatterjee, Govind Nihalani and Ramesh Sippy, who had played a major role in laying the foundation of the Indian television, had deserted the small screen today.

"Can't these pioneers make TV programmes any more? Of course they can, but nobody has asked them to do so, probably on the mistaken premise that they have lost their prime," he said.

He bitterly recalled an incident when a young programme executive of a channel asked director Ramesh Sippy to submit his bio-data when the maker of the popular series "Buniyaad" approached the channel with an idea.

"Surely, these pioneers and other veterans would not like to submit themselves to such humiliation," said Mahadevan.

He said "Ghar Ki Baat Hai", in fact, was planned as a tribute, Shah Rukh style, to these stalwarts and to the halcyon days of Indian television.

Luck By Chance and Victory Fall Flat In Box Office

·

Celebrity Gossip Box Office News

Zoya Akhtar's first film "Luck By Chance" may have got rave reviews, but it has failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box office. Cricket-based film "Victory" by debutant director Ajitpal Mangat too fell flat.

Both these medium-budget releases of last week (Jan 30) have proven to be duds in terms of business. Despite much appreciation by critics in India and abroad, “Luck By…” got a slow initial on the opening day with the counters warming up in the evening.

The momentum did stay over the weekend, but started dwindling Monday onwards.

On the other hand, the cricket drama starring Hurman S. Baweja has proved to be a debacle with no takers at the windows. Despite mixed reviews and some appreciation for Hurman's portrayal of an underdog cricketer, the film couldn't lure audiences.

“It doesn't happen with too many movies. Surprisingly, the collections for a genuinely well-made movie like 'Luck By Chance' haven't been as per expectations over the opening weekend. The film has seen a good release but the occupancy at theatres has only been near 50 percent,” trade analyst and critic Joginder Tuteja told IANS.

“As for 'Victory', it has turned out to be one the lowest openers in the last many months with only around 20 percent odd collections and that too only at single screens. There wasn't much buzz about the film to begin with and somehow as the film got close to the release, the interest level only continued to go down. Promotion was weak, promos uneven and marketing uninspiring,” he added.

Said Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor: “Sports movies are not that successful in India and considering the disastrous record of Hurman's first movie 'Love Story 2050', 'Victory' already had less chances of survival.

“So far as 'Luck By…' is concerned, the movie is being appreciated for its true flavour and the inside look of Bollywood, but business-wise it could rake in whatever was possible only over the first three-days,” he explained.

Produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Big Pictures, "Luck By Chance" stars Zoya's brother Farhan Akhtar and an ensemble cast featuring Konkona Sen Sharma, Dimple Kapadia, Rishi Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Hrithik Roshan and Isha Sharvani.

It is the story of an aspiring actor who arrives in Mumbai to make it big in Bollywood.

On the other hand, “Victory” produced by Mangat and Manmohan Shetty is the story of a father's dream to see his son become a national cricketer.

Released over 900 screens worldwide, Excel's Ritesh Sidhwani did not divulge any details about the budget of “Luck By Chance” while “Victory”, which hit close to 500 screens in India, was made at around Rs.400 million.

However, keeping the box-office boat steady have been Vishesh Films' “Raaz - The Mystery Continues" and Danny Boyle's Oscar-nominated underdog drama “”Slumdog Millionaire”.

Despite being in the second week, while, the former had already proven to be 2009s first hit, the latter has also picked up the momentum because of the hype due to the 10 Oscar nominations.

Celebrity Gossip Ash Doesn't Regret Doing Pink Panther 2

·

I didn't work in 'Pink Panther 2

Much has been written about Aishwarya Rai's so-called minuscule role in Hollywood film "Pink Panther 2". While the actress admits it is an out-and-out Steve Martin film, she maintains she signed it for an enriching experience and not for extra footage.

"It's a bit silly and exhausting to even talk about the length of my role based on what's seen in the trailers. Did anyone question my role in 'Khakee' when there was only one shot of me in the promo? Isn't that a very myopic view of contemporary acting? In my very first film 'Iruvar', I thought I transcended this footage fetish," Aishwarya told IANS.

Aishwarya, a former Miss World, doesn't regret doing the film.

"I didn't work in 'Pink Panther 2' because it was an international project. I got the script. I happily chose to be part of the film. They shot exactly what I was offered. I don't need to work with stardust in my eyes.

"Of course, 'Pink Panther' is a Steve Martin vehicle. Is that something to question? All the rest of the wonderful cast including Jean Reno and Andy Garcia play supporting roles. I treasure the experience of working in 'Pink Panther 2'."

Aishwarya says footage is not a burning issue for her.

"The choices I've made in my career aren't just about footage but an opportunity to work with actors, directors and technicians who enrich my life. Believe me working in 'Pink Panther' was a joy.

"It was a wonderful experience working with a stalwart like Steve Martin and the rest of the cast and crew. Why spoil it by questioning how much footage I have? So many Indian actors have worked in international ensemble casts."

The actress attended the film's premiere in New York on Tuesday (Feb 3) along with husband Abhishek Bachchan.

"They wanted me to be here for the film's promotion from earlier on. But I couldn't because of my prior commitments in India. We've a series of premieres lined up, which started in New York on Feb 3. From there it's a crazy whirlwind trip that will take me to several countries and continents from Paris to Berlin to Moscow to Madrid.

"The final destination for my 15-day trip will take me to a screening at the Berlin film festival. Then I'm back and I go straight to resume Mani Ratnam's film."

It is a double celebration for Aishwarya in New York this week. First is the premiere of "Pink Panther 2" that is followed by Abhishek's birthday on Thursday (Feb 5). The couple plans to celebrate his birthday in style.

"Abhishek is in New York with me. But he won't be able to accompany me for my other premieres because he has to be in India for the promotion of 'Delhi 6'," said Aishwarya, who returns to India on Feb 14.

Interestingly, Aishwarya was offered the lead opposite Will Smith in "Seven Pounds" which opens in Mumbai this week.

"Will Smith and I will work together for sure," laughed Aishwarya. "There have been a number of offers. Dates just don't work out. If he's keen to work with me, so am I," said the actress.

Shah Rukh at His Witty Best Celebrity Gossip

·

Bollywood Gossip Two Bollywood superstars have taken digs

The two Bollywood superstars have taken digs at each other, and even apologised to each other. Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday (Feb 4) laughed off the so-called spat with Aamir Khan as a joke but added that his rival at times did say things to his dislike.

“I don't pick on Aamir. You guys (the media) make a big thing out of it. It's a joke, so we carry on with it. It's no big deal,” he said Shah Rukh.
Dressed in a crisp white shirt and a chic black suit with neatly cropped hair, the 43-year-old actor spread cheer among the 200-plus crowd, including many kids, at the Emporio Mall in New Delhi he came as a brand ambassador for Swiss watch brand Tag Heuer.

King Khan, as he is fondly called, cleared all rumours about the 'cold war' between the two Khans of the Hindi film industry, but said he would have a talk with the “Ghajini” star.

“Sometimes he (Aamir) says something or somebody else says something that I don't like and I am very serious about it. So I'll personally talk to him about it,” said Shah Rukh.

Apart from their movies, the two superstars have been hogging the limelight for their public remarks on each other.

Aamir, who was in the capital recently to promote his psychological thriller “Ghajini”, had cleared the air about the war of words by saying that he could never fight with Shah Rukh.

"Do you think I could dare to fight with Shah Rukh. He is a good friend and so I can't fight with him. I respect him a lot," Aamir had said.

But it didn't end at this. Shah Rukh sparked a controversy by proclaiming himself as the biggest brand and saying there cannot be any competition with him.

Taking a dig at the remark, Aamir said: "I don't believe in competition with others. I only compete with myself."

Aamir, whose forthcoming project is titled “Three Idiots”, also said that title should be rightfully given to the three Khans of Bollywood - including himself, Shah Rukh and Salman.

“My forthcoming film... is Rajkumar Hirani's 'Three Idiots' and I play the character of an idiot with R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. But I think Shah Rukh, Salman and I are truly the three idiots of Bollywood,” he said.

At the Tag Heuer press conference, Shah Rukh also ruled out the option of joining politics ...at least until he turns 127 years old.
"I might join politics at the age of 127 - when probably you guys are old and I am still young," he said.

Shah Rukh, who is nursing a shoulder injury, was at his jocular best when he took digs at journalists and gave witty answers.

Asked about his shoulder problem, Shah Rukh told a reporter: "I just can't hug you hard enough."

"I will be well. I'm going for surgery in the next few days. I was just hoping to delay it because of a few close commitments like this event and also for promoting my film 'Billu Barber'. As soon as that is released, I will enroll myself into a hospital and get my injury repaired."

Shah Rukh said he is upset about his injury as he cannot move as much as he would otherwise like to. He is also sad that he cannot exert his body much and, therefore, has to refrain from his daily dose of exercise too.

"I am feeling a little sad because for the next six months I won't be able to play football or do any exercise. I used to lift weights but with this injury I can't do anything of that sort," he said.

Despite the injury, Shah Rukh did not let his pain show through. He made a top official of the watch brand sing "Mar jaani, mar jaani" - a peppy Hindi number from "Billu Barber".

Returning compliments, flattering girls, accepting flowers, signing autographs and praising his wife Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh Khan was also at his romantic best at the press conference.
“I have gifted my entire life to Gauri,” Shah Rukh told reporters when asked whether his forthcoming film “Billu Barber”, releasing on Feb 13, was a Valentine's Day gift for his wife.

“She produces all my movies and only if the film does well, she accepts any gifts. If my movie flops, then she does not accept any gift. I feel 'Billu Barber' is a beautiful film about relationships, love and friendship. I also have a good part in the film along with Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta. If the film works well, my wife will accept a gift otherwise she will throw me out of the house,” he quipped.

The actor said he has not made any Valentine's Day plans yet due to his medical condition.

“I want to get done with this surgery so I don't think it is a good time to plan for Valentine's Day. Right now, I am very much concerned about my arm,” he maintained.

The crowd went berserk from the moment he entered the lobby of the swish Emporio Mall.

A young die-hard fan of the actor couldn't shy away from shouting “Shah Rukh, we love you” in the middle of the press conference and the actor was quick enough to respond.

He said: “I love you too sweetie. Let's get married soon after this. Whenever I come to Delhi, I keep getting married - it's a thing with me. I like Delhi girls a lot but girl, my daughter would be as old you after a few years.”

To another young journalist, who intended to ask Shah Rukh's opinion on Shilpa Shetty's entry into the Indian Premier League (IPL) that was announced on Monday, the superstar quipped that she resembled Shilpa's younger sister Shamita and that he would love to do a “Baazigar 2” with her.

Shah Rukh obliged nearly every young child present there by shaking hands with them besides signing autographs and also accepting little tokens of love like roses and pens from them.
