Michael Jackson's sudden death has made him once again the most dominant musical figure on the planet.

His recordings have dominated the US pop charts for the third consecutive week ending Wednesday - counting a sale of more than 9 million of the singer's albums since his death June 25.

Nielsen SoundScan said Jackson's albums sold 1.1 million copies over the last seven days and had combined to sell an impressive 2.3 million in the US in the nearly three weeks since he died, reports the Los Angeles Times.

According to the Los Angeles Times an unidentified source with knowledge of sales figures for the catalog said that more than 9 million Jackson albums have been sold worldwide since June 25.

Sony Music, which controls the catalog of his solo adult recordings, declines as a policy to comment on sales issues, but a spokeswoman for the label did not dispute the accuracy of the 9-million figure.

Jackson's music has also topped the pop charts in countries including France, Germany, Australia and Britain during the same period.

Pop singer Britney Spears is refusing to take her sons on tour to Russia after she received a series of death threats by e-mail.

The Toxic hit-maker will base herself in Finland and fly in just for the two concerts in St Petersburg and Moscow next week, reported thesun.co.uk.

"Originally, both boys were to accompany Britney but she was against taking them because of these constant threats," said a source.

After the Moscow performance, Spears will fly straight to London in her private jet to be reunited with sons Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two.

The identity of the e-mail sender is unknown.

Gossip Kara's Idol Winner Song Cut From Tour

We all know that it can be tough to make it on the American Idol stage, but now it seems that even songs are not safe from being voted off. This year's song written especially for the Idol winner has been removed from the American Idol tour.

The song "No Boundaries" which was written by the newest Idol judge Kara DioGuardi was highly unpopular among fans. So far on tour the song was getting such a poor audience response that winner Kris Allen decided to drop the song from the show and was told to find a new song to replace it.

Each year a song is written before the finale for the top two finalists to sing. The song then becomes the winner's victory song. Victory songs such as Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" usually go on to be best sellers, but this year's song has proved to be a flop.

There has been no word yet on whether Kara DioGuardi will be returning to Idol next season. Will her failed victory song affect her chances of sticking around?

They've killed Superman once, they've broken Batman's back, they've created gay superheroes but truth is always stranger than fiction.

In 2013 Detective Comics (DC) license of ownership on the Superman character expires. What you say? Well, quietly unbeknownst to most mortals there is a legal battle being waged between the Seigel heirs (family members to the Superman creators) and DC and Warner Brothers.

Marc Toberoff legal counsel to the Siegal heirs (creators of Superman) states, "This trial was only an interim step in the multifaceted accounting case which remains, in that it only concerned the secondary issue of whether DC Comics, or DC Comics and Warner Bros., would have to account to the Siegels," he said. "To put this in further perspective, the entire accounting action pales in comparison to the fact that in 2013, the Siegels, along with the estate of Joe Shuster, will own the entire original copyright to Superman, and neither DC Comics nor Warner Bros. will be able to exploit any new Superman works without a license from the Siegels and Shusters."

What does all this mean? It means the Siegels feel ripped off by the studio and the publisher. If they don't get what they want, they will take Superman and walk in 2013.

Speculation runs rampant on discussion boards with the mere thought that Superman could go to ...Marvel? Imagine Superman side by side with Spider-Man or Ironman or any Marvel character. Batman will have no one to team up with anymore.

The early word is that federal courts sided with Warner Brothers and DC on a ruling regarding their deals on Smalville and Superman Returns. From the looks of things the studios must start the next Superman film by 2011. Meanwhile many are spectulating that this is the beginning of the end of Superman under the DC publication. Time will tell.

Gossip Chris Brown ducks jail time in plea deal

Chris Brown avoided jail time today after pleading guilty to the felony assault of Rihanna on February 8. She was at the courthouse to testify if the plea deal wasn't accepted. CNN reports:

Under terms of the agreement, Brown will serve five years of probation and complete 180 days of community service.
Los Angeles Criminal Court Judge Patricia Schnegg said Brown could apply to have his supervised probation transferred to Virginia, where he maintains his legal residence. He also can complete his community service there, she said, but it would have to meet the court's standards.
"I want Mr. Brown treated as any other defendant who comes to this court," Schnegg said.
Brown must also undergo domestic violence counseling, she said. But the judge noted he has no prior criminal record.

Well, now that this debacle is officially over, the important thing to remember is at least the message wasn't sent to Chris Brown's young fans that it's okay to beat your girlfriend because you probably won't go to jail the first time.

The Daily Mail has a very funny and very sad story today. The title of this masterpiece of modern journalism is “Hollywood stars say the silliest things: She may be a movie beauty, but is Megan Fox the DUMBEST star ever?” As you can imagine, someone at The Mail was as flabbergasted as we were when reading some of the ridiculous interviews Megan Fox has given over the past few months. Probably because Megan gives about twenty bajillion interviews a week, and she loves to talk about how beautiful, cool, edgy, gross, sexy, dark and hardcore she is, and sometimes some of her gems are lost to us. She’s quite happy to discuss drugs, sex and even flatulence but take this example of her discussing her ‘Brian’ tattoo - dedicated to on/off boyfriend Brian Austin Green. She said: ‘I wouldn’t regret the tattoo if we weren’t together. I can always have a kid and name him Brian. There are options.’

During a recent interview with American magazine Entertainment Weekly, Megan questioned her mental health, saying: ‘I think that I’m so psychotic and so mentally ill that if I could tap into that I could do something really interesting.’

Among her more controversial comments is her call to legalise cannabis. She told British GQ: ‘I hope they legalise it and when they do I’ll be the first f***ing person in line to buy my pack of joints. People look at it like it’s this crazy, hippy, f***ed-up thing to do. And it’s not. I hope they legalise it.’

She told FHM last year: ‘I really enjoy having sex, and that’s offensive to some people. Women are the quickest to call other women slags, which is sad. I haven’t met a lot of men who’ve said, “You like having sex? What a dirty whore you are!” That’s because they wish their wives or girlfriends would have more sex with them.’

Megan makes no attempt to hide she is aware of her good looks, declaring: ‘Well, I’m clearly not ugly.’

She also told the June issue of Elle: ‘I’m just really confident sexually, and I think that sort of oozes out of my pores. It’s just there. It’s something I don’t have to turn on.’

She told Esquire: ‘I don’t want to have to be like a Scarlett Johansson, who I have nothing against, but I don’t want to have to go on talk shows and pull out every single SAT word I’ve ever learned to prove, like, “Take me seriously, I am intelligent, I can speak.”‘

Moving from Scarlett to Britney Spears, Megan admitted she felt sorry for the singer. She said: ‘I used to sit back and think, “Please, Britney Spears has the best life ever - she has everything she could ever want!” But she has one of the worst lives. Her life is a living f***ing nightmare. I have panic attacks thinking about her life.’

In the Entertainment Weekly interview, Megan criticises her performance in the first Transformers movie - despite the fact she is supposed to be promoting the sequel. She said: ‘I’m terrible in it. It’s my first real movie and it’s not honest and not realistic… Unless you’re a seasoned veteran, working with Michael Bay is not about an acting experience.’

Discussing a possible third Transformer movie, she counters: ‘I can’t s**t on this movie because it did give me a career and open all these doors for me. But I don’t want to blow smoke up people’s a*s. People are well aware that this is not a movie about acting.’

Further disparaging her industry, Megan told GQ: ‘When you think about it, we actors are kind of prostitutes. We get paid to feign attraction and love. Bradley Cooper was asked at an event on Friday in Paris if he had a hot new romance with Jennifer Aniston, with whom he had a well documented dinner date in New York last week. He said that he worked with her and that they’re friends, but he didn’t exactly deny that he was out on a date with her. The way he words his statement makes it sound like there could eventually be a romantic relationship there, but that it hasn’t developed yet. He said “If someone says ‘hello’ to her, it’s [a] given [in the tabloid press] that he’s fallen in love with her.” It’s like he’s hinting that it could go somewhere, but saying they’re in the early stages yet and he’s not sure. At least that’s how I interpreted it:

Cooper is trying to remain classy about the whole thing, and I bet the “falling in love” part might come in time if he finds her so interesting. It was telling that he brought the L word up.

Gossip Sandra Bullock is Eliminating the Competition

Sandra Bullock is a dirty whore liar. She makes crazy statements about how being fat is sexy (wrong!), and yet, she's still wicked hot and weighs a grand total of 3 1/2 pounds... wet... while wearing a suit of armor. I'm not sure how she got the battlewear to weigh less, but somehow she did.

"I go, 'Oh my God, I've got to lose weight so I can fit into this.' But I also go, 'I haven't been to the gym in a year. Do I want to go to the gym? No.' At some point I will start running again and I will get there," she said. "There's something sexy about a gut. Not a 400-pound beer gut, but a little paunch. I love that."

I think this is a crazy plan to get rid of all other thin, sexy actresses. First, get them all feeling good about their bodies. Second, stop them from going to the gym.

Gossip YOUTH MISSES MEGAN AGAIN

KODAK'S attempt to arrange a meeting between Megan Fox and an 11-year-old admirer came out blank. In a p.r. stunt, the company offered $5,000 to anyone who could identify the youngster, who'd been photographed trying to give the "Transformers 2" siren a yellow rose at the London premiere. After Gawker identified the child as Harvey Kindlon, Kodak flew him to New York, hoping to get him an audience with Fox on the "Today" show, which had booked her for a segment yesterday.



But Fox was bumped after Michael Jackson's death, and she's since returned to LA. A source tells Page Six, "Kodak basically put this kid on a plane on the off-chance that he'd get to meet her. They never even confirmed with 'Today.' Now they're offering him around for interviews. It's exploitative and creepy." A rep for "Today" says, "Harvey was never scheduled to appear and we don't plan to have him on." Kodak didn't get back to us.

Gossip Jackson's family moves quickly to take charge

Yahoo! News: Michael Jackson's family moved quickly Monday to take control of his complicated personal and financial affairs, winning temporary custody of his three children and asking a judge to name the King of Pop's mother as administrator of his estate.

In documents filed in Superior Court, Jackson's parents said they believe their 50-year-old son died without a valid will.

They also made it clear they believe they should take charge of both his debt-ridden but potentially lucrative financial empire and act as permanent caretakers of his three children.

Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted 79-year-old Katherine Jackson temporary guardianship of the children, who range in age from 7 to 12. He did not immediately rule on her requests to take charge of the children's and Jackson's estates.

Beckloff scheduled a hearing for July 6 and another for Aug. 3 to consider those issues and whether Katherine Jackson should be appointed the children's permanent guardian.

The judge later on Monday also granted Katherine Jackson the right to take control of her son's personal property that is now in the hands of an unnamed third party. The ruling does not detail the nature of those items and does not provide control of any money in the estate.

L. Londell McMillan, the family's attorney, said in a statement that the Jacksons are pleased with the results of their Monday filings.

"Mrs. Jackson deserves custody, and the family should have the administration of the brilliance of Mr. Michael Jackson. Mrs. Jackson is a wonderful, loving and strong woman with a special family many of us have admired for years. The personal and legal priorities are focused on first protecting the best interests of Mr. Michael Jackson's children, his family, his memorial services and then preserving his creative and business legacy with the dignity and honor it deserves."

When Jackson died Thursday, he left behind a 12-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter by his ex-wife Deborah Rowe, as well as a 7-year-old son born to a surrogate mother.

The Jackson family said the children — Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. (known as Prince Michael), Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael II — are living at the Jackson family compound in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

"They have a long established relationship with paternal grandmother and are comfortable in her care," the family said in court documents.

Family patriarch Joe Jackson, 79, said at a news conference that the children were enjoying playing with other kids — something they do not normally do.

The documents state that although Rowe is the mother of the two older children, her whereabouts are unknown. The document simply listed "none" for the mother of the youngest child, Prince Michael II.

Supporting Katherine Jackson in her petition bid to administer the estate was Jackson's father, Joe Jackson.

The Jacksons say they have not heard from Rowe since their son's death. Rowe's attorney, Marta Almli, did not respond to an e-mail message seeking comment Monday. She previously said, "Ms. Rowe's only thoughts at this time have been regarding the devastating loss Michael's family has suffered."

Mark Lester, a former British child star who is godfather to Jackson's children, told The Associated Press he believes they belong with Jackson's mother.

"She is a very loving, kind and gracious woman, and she had a very close relationship with Michael and a very good rapport with her grandchildren," Lester said. "I know the kids are fine. They are deeply saddened by what's happened, but they're coping."

Meanwhile, authorities continued to investigate Jackson's death. Officials with the Los Angeles County coroner's office returned to the mansion he was renting at the time of his death and left with two large plastic bags of evidence.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said the bags contained medication. He declined to elaborate.

Lawyers for Jackson's cardiologist Dr. Conrad Murray said the physician never prescribed the powerful drugs Demerol or Oxycontin for Jackson and did all he could to revive him when he found the entertainer near death.

Attorney Matt Alford told the AP it took as long as 30 minutes for paramedics to be called after Murray found Jackson with a faint pulse and performed CPR.

The delay was partly because Jackson's room in the rented mansion didn't have a telephone and Murray didn't know Jackson's street address to give to emergency crews, Alford said.

Eventually, Murray found a chef in the house and had him summon a security guard, who called for help while the doctor continued to perform CPR.

Jackson's father told reporters at the family compound that his son's funeral was still in the planning stages.

"It will be some private, but not closed all the way down to the public," he said without elaborating.

He added that his son would not be buried at Neverland Ranch, the sprawling playground he built in the rolling hills of Santa Barbara County then abandoned after going into seclusion following his acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005.

Jackson's father also used the news conference to plug a record company he said he's founding with a business partner.

"We have a lot of good artists pitching to come out," he said.

His son, who had not released a new recording or performed publicly in years, was believed to be hundreds of millions of dollars in debt at the time of his death. However, his finances are complicated and could take years to unravel.

Clearly one of his most valuable assets is his recording catalog, which his father could potentially rerelease through his new record company if the family gains control of his assets. There could also be recordings in Jackson's estate that he had never released.

The AP learned that Jackson had finished an elaborate video production project just two weeks before he died. The five-week project dubbed "Dome Project" could be the final finished video piece overseen by the star.

There's also a financial bonanza to be had in the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalog of which Jackson owned 50 percent. The 750,000-song catalog includes music by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Lady Gaga and the Jonas Brothers, and is estimated to be worth as much as $2 billion.

"Quite frankly, he may be worth more dead than alive," Jerry Reisman, general counsel for the Hit Factory, a recording studio where Jackson produced his best-selling album "Thriller," said recently.

Jackson nearly lost his beloved Neverland, which was once filled with amusement park rides and wild animals, to foreclosure in March. Billionaire real estate investor Thomas Barrack bailed him out at the 11th hour, setting up a joint venture with Jackson that took ownership of the 2,500-acre property.

The ranch's future is uncertain, but three of Jackson's brothers visited the estate with Barrack over the weekend. A spokesman for the holding company that now operates it said it was premature to talk about the ranch's future.

Gossip Jessica Simpson had to throw off some golf games

Kaiser pointed me to this kind of sweet interview with Tony Romo that was published yesterday in People. Romo was accompanying a 10 year-old boy with leukemia to betting practice at Yankee stadium. He said that things with Jessica were going well and that they have a low-key life together:

“It’s a normal relationship,” Romo, smiling and relaxed, told PEOPLE during batting practice at Yankee Stadium as Starter athletic gear chaperone to Ben Brant, a 10-year-old Albany, N.Y., boy diagnosed with leukemia.

“There’s nothing exotic or crazy about it,” Romo, 29, says of Simpson. “We’re two people who care about each other, and it’s not hard to make it work when both of you want to see the other one. We make each other happy.”

As for how their relationship is faring, “It’s going good,” he says. “We have a fun being around each other. She’s a great girl. We enjoy each other’s company.”

Gossip Lawyers set to square off over Jackson estate

Lawyers for Michael Jackson and his family on Sunday prepared to square off in a courtroom hearing over control of the singer's estate as media reports mounted about powerful drugs that may have contributed to his death.

One legal expert predicted the existence of a 2002 will signed by Jackson means his mother, 79-year-old Katherine Jackson, will likely be forced to give up temporary control she now has over his affairs.

"Given the existence of the will and the expression of Michael's intentions, the only likely outcome is Katherine's powers will be terminated and she will no longer have any power to deal with the estate," Los Angeles-based family law attorney Michael G. Dave said on Sunday.

Lawyers for Katherine Jackson and for two men named co-executors of the will -- attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain -- that surfaced late last week will meet in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday.

Katherine Jackson was granted temporary administrator of her son's affairs last week before the will became known.

It puts his estate, which in an attachment is valued at more than $500 million, into a family trust that benefits his three children, his mother, and charities.

Jackson died as much as $500 million in debt according to media reports, but he had assets that have been valued as high as $1 billion and include part ownership in a music catalog of songs from the Beatles and other recording artists.

REPORTS OF DRUG USE MOUNT

A separate hearing over the guardianship of Michael Jackson's children has been postponed until July 13.

Katherine Jackson has been named temporary guardian of Prince Michael Jackson Jr., 12, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11, and Prince Michael Joseph Jackson, II, 7, and the 2002 will also makes her guardian of the children.

Meanwhile, more media reports surfaced over the weekend about possible drug use by the 50-year-old "King of Pop," who died on June 25 when he went into cardiac arrest at his rented mansion in a wealthy Los Angeles neighborhood.

Several media reports have said the powerful anesthetic Diprivan was found in the home, and the Los Angles Times reported that a police probe is focusing on the role doctors may have played in providing Jackson with medication.

"Numerous bottles," of Diprivan without labels were found at the mansion, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Criminal defense attorney and legal expert Steve Cron said police will try to determine if any doctors who prescribed the medication were regularly examining Jackson.

"The step everybody is waiting on, is the autopsy report to show what was in (Jackson's) system," Cron said.

Two autopsies were performed on Jackson after his death but toxicology results are not expected for about a month.

Diprivan, the brand name of propofol, is an anesthetic that "should never be used outside of a controlled and monitored medical setting," the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) said in a statement, noting that its members have not studied the particulars of Jackson's death.

Patients can have extremely variable responses to the drug and some patients can become completely anesthetized, including losing the ability to breathe, the group said.

Elsewhere, officials planning a massive public memorial for the singer on Tuesday in Los Angeles said about 1.6 million people registered to be one of 8,750 people who will get two free tickets to attend the service.

Hollywood Jennifer Aniston must choose between Gerard Butler & Bradley Cooper

Last week the National Enquirer and In Touch Weekly threw a little party over what appeared to them as the rotting corpse of Jennifer Aniston’s love life. After going on one date with Bradley Cooper, Bradley totally pulled a “just friends” in the press, which was viewed by some as a humiliating public denial of a perfectly good made-for-tabloid romance. The Enquirer claimed it was Aniston’s “Love Implosion” and created a story about Jennifer giving Bradley a “relationship timeline” in which he was to provide her babies and marriage within a year. Meanwhile, In Touch had some “insider” quotes about how Jennifer is needy, clingy, and how she scares men away.


So Aniston was due a nicer portrayal of what exactly is happening in her love life. This version comes via Life & Style, and it definitely shows the past two weeks’ events in better light. They’re basically saying that Jennifer has to choose between Bradley Cooper (who, I guess, still wants to date her in this version) and Gerard Butler. Apparently, Aniston and Butler have been flirting up a storm while shooting Bounty Hunter. An insider claims that Aniston says she and Gerard “have a strong physical attraction.” Uh… yeah, he’s Gerard Butler. He could have a strong physical attraction with a mailbox. He’s that sexy.

“Between takes, Jen and Gerard were definitely flirting with each other,” says an eyewitness on the Atlantic City, NJ set of Bounty Hunter. “She was rubbing his face, touching his arm and laughing.”

[During] a late night shoot in the Trump Taj Mahal casino, “Jen was very chatty with Gerard during the breaks,” another onlooker said. “Gerard was getting really close to her on the escalator. You could definitely notice a connection between them.”

Jen’s flirtation with Gerard came less than a week after [she went to dinner with Bradley Cooper]. “They were very flirty and taken with each other,” a witness says.

In other words, Jen appears to have her pick of two of Hollywood’s hottest stars.

“I’m having a great time working with her,” Gerard told Life & Style on June 16 at the beginning of filming. “She’s a lot of fun to be with.”

But nearly four years after her split with Brad Pitt, Jen isn’t in any rush to walk down the aisle. She’s determined not to commit to a serious relationship unless she’s sure it’s worth her time, according to an insider. In the meantime, she’s just having fun.

“She has strong and sincere feelings for Gerard, and she’s very curious about what’s going to happen between them on set,” the insider says. “She says they have a strong physical attraction.”

Confirms an insider close to the Scottish actor, “She’s always liked Gerard, and now he likes her.”

As for Bradley, [Jennifer] is interested in going out with him to see how their relationship develops. But for now, they’re just friends, Bradley insists. And Jen’s not choosing either guy. She’s keeping her options open.

As much as I want to shake Aniston and use any and all negative reinforcement to dissuade her from ever, ever flipping her hair in Gerard’s direction, I have a feeling that it’s on. I think Aniston will get into Gerard’s pants - if she hasn’t already. They will make the sexy time. But I do seriously doubt that Gerard will become some tabloid-friendly romance for her. Gerard doesn’t seem to go in for those clever little “insider” quotes about how he’s just looking for a nice girl (like Aniston!) to settle down with (and get Aniston pregnant!). The last time he was rumored to be romancing some Hollywood lady, it was Cameron Diaz, and Gerard shot that down with this rude/hilarious comment: “So if I take my dog for a walk apparently I’m f—ing my dog? No, it’s not true!” So, will there be another denial?

Angelina Jolie is Hollywood`s top earning actress, banking $27 million in the past year to beat out her partner Brad Pitt`s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, who raked in $25 million, a Forbes.com study showed on Wednesday.

Most of Jolie`s income came from her share of the profits from her action film "Wanted," but she was also paid a large upfront sum for her role in "Salt," the study said. Jolie and Pitt have six children.

Aniston, who was married to Pitt before he became involved with Jolie, earned most of her millions from the romantic comedy "Marley and Me" and her upcoming film "The Baster."

"Aniston also still earns money from (reruns of TV series) Friends and she gets a nice paycheck shilling for Glaceau`s SmartWater," Forbes.com said.

Meryl Streep came in at No. 3 with $24 million, most of which came from her role in "Mamma Mia," while Sarah Jessica Parker was ranked fourth with $23 million in earnings following the movie version of TV series "Sex and the City."

Cameron Diaz rounds out the top five, banking $20 million between June 2008 and June 2009.

Forbes.com said it spoke to agents, managers, producers and lawyers to work out what actresses were paid upfront for movies they are currently shooting and what pay they might have earned after a movie hit the theaters. Money earned from perfume or clothing lines was also taken into account.

"As is still typical for Hollywood, our actresses earned significantly less than their male counterparts," Forbes.com said, pointing out that the top earning male actor, Harrison Ford, made $65 million.
